Activision decided to turn its amps up to eleven today as it revealed the first details of Guitar Hero III. The next instalment in the rockin’ series is to be made available on the PS2, PS3, 360, and Wii – all bundled with wireless models of Gibson Guitar’s Les Paul and Kramer guitars.

Guitar Hero III will include all of the modes fans have come to expect, as well as newly added features such as a “new multiplayer action-inspired battle mode, gruelling boss battles, a bevy of exclusive unlockable content and authentic rock venues”. Online multiplayer game modes will also be included, allowing “axe-shredders worldwide to compete head-to-head for true legendary rock status”.

This time round, Activision has ensured to strike up multiple partnership details with major music record labels, giving Guitar Hero III the possibility to have one of the deepest catalogues of music yet. Currently confirmed tracks are:

  • Paint It Black (by The Rolling Stones)
  • Cherub Rock (by Smashing Pumpkins)
  • Sabotage (by Beastie Boys)
  • The Metal (by Tenacious D)
  • My Name is Jonas (by Weezer)
  • Knights of Cydonia (by Muse)
  • Cult of Personality (by Living Colour)
  • Rock And Roll All Nite (as made famous by Kiss)
  • School’s Out (as made famous by Alice Cooper)
  • Slow Ride (as made famous by Fog Hat)
  • Barracuda (as made famous by Heart)

The appearance of Knights of Cydonia is worth it alone, frankly. Colour me interested.
