As the first game in a dual announcement – Ubisoft today confirmed the existence of Sam Fisher’s fifth adventure – Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Currently billed for the 360 and PC, Conviction takes a similar ‘good guy, bad guy?’ slant to the last game in the Splinter Cell series, Double Agent. This time, you’re the fugitive and “you’re being ruthlessly hunted by the very government you once served”. You will need to “react to changing situations and use the environment and the crowds around you to create diversions and deter your enemies”, apparently. It all sounds a bit Assassin’s Creed.

That is, of course, until you realise there’s no high-tech gadgetry to be played with in Assassin’s Creed. There’ll be plenty to help you stay one step ahead of the game in Splinter Cell: Conviction, however, and plenty more besides.
