What happens when your game is banned in the UK and heavily restricted in the US? Well, if you're Take Two, and your game is Manhunt 2, you put it on the shelf and have lots of meetings to consider your options. What they've come up with so far is this recently released statement, which reads as follows:
"Take-Two Interactive Software has temporarily suspended plans to distribute Manhunt 2 for the Wii or PlayStation platforms while it reviews its options with regard to the recent decisions made by the British Board of Film Classification and Entertainment Software Rating Board. We continue to stand behind this extraordinary game. We believe in freedom of creative expression, as well as responsible marketing, both of which are essential to our business of making great entertainment."
It is likely that Rockstar/Take Two will prolong the prospects of Manhunt 2 by appealing the BBFC's decision. It will also be possible to change some of the game's content and file it for re-review with the ESRB, although considering both company's stance on the matter this will probably be the last resort.
