Here’s an announcement that was quite unexpected. A Pokémon Trainer, who can swap between Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard, will be a playable Brawl character.
The Trainer will stand in the distance, and at the touch of a button can cycle and change out the Pokémon in the order mentioned above.
Switching between your Pokémon won’t change their fatigue levels or your damage meter though, so you won’t need to worry about people being cheating little weasels by changing out at the last second.
